Mangaluru: St Agnes College celebrates International Commerce Day with fervour

Mangaluru, Aug 14: The department of commerce at St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, celebrated International Commerce Day on August 13 with an event highlighting academic achievement, entrepreneurial spirit, and student talent.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Dr Therese Pereira, associate professor, department of commerce at GFGC Kavoor, emphasized the pervasive nature of commerce in daily life. She noted that individuals naturally practice commercial principles in their everyday decisions without formal study, and highlighted the role of entrepreneurship in fostering economic growth and personal independence.

Presiding over the function, Sr Venissa A C spoke on the core significance of commerce in modern society, urging students to leverage their academic foundations to drive ethical business practices and positive social impact.

Highlighting student excellence, the dignitaries’ felicitated key achievers Aysha Lamha M K, Pratheeksha B and Diya Kamath.

Aysha Lamha M K a final B Com student was felicitated for securing All India Rank 2 and Worldwide Rank 7 in the Strategic Business Reporting (SBR) paper of the ACCA March 2026 examinations.

Pratheeksha B (B Com business analytics, batch 2023–2026) received a special recognition for her technical expertise and developing an SQL-based "Diwali Sale Analysis" project shared on GitHub and LinkedIn.

Diya Kamath was recognized in absentia for successfully clearing the CMA examinations while pursuing her undergraduate studies.

Student achievers clearing various ACCA and CA modules were felicitated alongside the winners of the "Entrepreneurship at St Agnes" competition.

The formal event also showcased academic research through the release of several books authored by the faculty members of the college:

Business Statistics – Authored by Bhoomika K R and Pooja Shetty

Corporate Communication and Professional Skills, Employability Skills, Audit and Assurance, Forensic Accounting and Auditing – Authored by Rodney Vaz

Human Resource Management, Banking and Financial Awareness – Authored by Vineetha N T and Nimitha K.

Following the formal stage ceremony, the campus came alive with competitive energy through the Mad Ad competition, where teams demonstrated marketing flair and creativity, followed by Tatvam (B Com Talent Fiesta), a platform celebrating student artistic and cultural talents.

The event successfully blended academic rigor with creative expression, reinforcing the institution's commitment to holistic professional development.
