Jammu, Aug 16: Joint security forces launched a search operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Sunday following reports of movement of unidentified persons in the area, officials said.
A massive joint cordon-and-search operation (CASO) was launched in the Jophar area of Ramnagar in Udhampur district following intelligence inputs about the suspected movement of two to three unidentified individuals.
Acting on the inputs, joint teams of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, its Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Army cordoned off the area and began combing operations, which were underway, officials said.
Security forces have intensified multi-district anti-terror operations and area-domination exercises across the Jammu region following recent inputs about the movement of terrorists.
With the heightened security arrangements for Independence Day still in place across Jammu and Kashmir, joint teams of the Army, J&K Police, including the SOG, and central paramilitary forces are maintaining heightened vigilance.
Recently, a massive search operation was launched after a video surfaced showing four suspected foreign and local terrorists scaling Ramtund Peak in Doda district.
As the mountain belt is close to the Seoj Dhar ridge connecting Doda with Udhampur, reinforcements were mobilised across district boundaries to seal possible transit and escape routes through the dense forest terrain.
Security forces have also intensified a major joint operation in the Gambhir Mughlan and Dorimal forests in the Manjakote sector of Rajouri district.
Forces are using drones, helicopters and sniffer dogs to search natural cave systems where foreign terrorists are suspected to be hiding.
In Poonch district, a cordon-and-search operation was conducted across the forest villages of Dhara Sangla, Gujjar Naar and Kherowali Dhok.
Operations in the sector have led to the recovery of hidden logistics caches containing winter blankets, gas stoves and food supplies allegedly intended to sustain prolonged evasion.
Joint checks by local police and the Border Security Force (BSF) are also underway along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) passing through Ramban and Nagrota.
Heavy-vehicle frisking, random cordon exercises and checkpoint surveillance have been intensified to secure key transit routes.
