Sindhu, Ayush Shetty lead India’s World Championships campaign

New Delhi, Aug 17: Indian shuttlers will begin their campaign at the BWF Badminton World Championships at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Monday.

Former world champion and ninth seed P V Sindhu will take on Ireland’s Sophia Noble in the women’s singles first round. In women’s doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will face Spain’s Paula Lopez and Lucia Rodriguez.

In the evening session, Indian debutant Ayush Shetty will face world No. 1 and defending champion Shi Yu Qi of China in the men’s singles.

In men’s doubles, fifth seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have advanced to the second round after receiving a bye. M R Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan will face Ireland’s Scott Guildea and Paul Reynolds.

In mixed doubles, 15th seeds Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto have also advanced to the round of 32 after receiving a bye.
