Mangaluru, Aug 18: St Theresa’s School, Bendur, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. The programme, presented by the students of grade 7, brought alive the spirit of freedom, patriotism and responsible citizenship through a meaningful and engaging celebration.
The occasion was graced by the esteemed presence of chief guest Major Lohith Suvarna (Retd), Indian Army; correspondent Sr Shaila; principal Sr Lourdes; vice principal Sr Vidya; and PTA vice president Linda Pereira.
The celebration commenced with the guard of honour, followed by the proud hoisting of the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem. The disciplined and rhythmic march past reflected the unity, confidence and patriotic spirit of the students.
The gathering then sought God’s blessings through prayer and a prayer song, followed by a warm welcome and a reflection on the significance of Independence Day. The highlight of the cultural presentation was the thematic dance drama, “Who Is Responsible?”, which conveyed a powerful message on the responsibility of every citizen towards society and the nation. A soulful patriotic song followed, leaving the audience inspired and reflective.
The celebration was enriched by the inspiring address of Major Lohith Suvarna (Retd). Drawing from his experience in the Indian Army, he spoke passionately about patriotism, responsibility and service to the nation. He encouraged students to consider serving the country through the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Armed Forces. Emphasising the importance of taking personal responsibility, he urged everyone to move beyond blaming others for the problems around us and instead ask, “What can I do to bring about a change?” His message encouraged the students to become responsible citizens and contribute meaningfully to the progress of the nation.
Correspondent Sr Shaila also addressed the students, encouraging them to grow into responsible citizens who would contribute positively to society and the nation. She congratulated the students and teachers for presenting a wonderful and meaningful programme.
The celebration concluded with the announcement of the march past results, followed by the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, teachers, parents and students who contributed to the success of the programme.
The 80th Independence Day celebration was a memorable occasion that filled the school community with patriotic pride and renewed our commitment to building a stronger, responsible and better India.
