New Delhi, Aug 19: In a move aimed at making highway travel more convenient for local commuters, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded its online FASTag Local Pass facility to 121 toll plazas across the country.

The facility allows eligible commuters to apply for and subscribe to monthly local passes through the Rajmargyatra mobile app, eliminating the need to visit toll plazas in person or submit physical documents.

The initiative is part of the government's efforts to promote digital services and improve ease of living by making tolling operations more transparent and efficient.

The first Digital Local Pass facility was introduced in July 2026 at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi's Urban Extension Road-II. Following the successful rollout, the facility has now been extended to more than 120 toll plazas and is expected to cover additional locations in the coming months.

Residents living within a 20-km radius of an eligible toll plaza can apply for the pass through the Rajmargyatra mobile app. Eligible commuters can make unlimited trips through the respective toll plaza during the month, subject to applicable rules.

Previously, commuters had to visit toll plazas and submit documents to prove their residential address and establish their eligibility for the local pass.

The digital system uses consent-based integration with government platforms, including DigiLocker and VAHAN, to verify details such as the applicant's residential address, vehicle information and linked FASTag.

Eligibility is further verified through GIS-based technology, which determines whether the applicant's registered address falls within the prescribed 20-km radius of the concerned toll plaza.

The NHAI said the expanded facility is aimed at reducing paperwork and physical visits while making the process of obtaining local passes faster, simpler and more citizen-friendly.
