New Delhi, Aug 22: A 31-year-old software engineer died in Delhi after he was allegedly assaulted by his in-laws following a domestic dispute at his home in Nihal Vihar, police said.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning after an argument reportedly broke out between the victim, identified as Vinay Gupta, and his wife Rekha over giving medicine to their child.

Following the argument, Rekha allegedly left the house after contacting her family members. She later returned with her two brothers, sister-in-law, father, uncle and other relatives.

According to the victim's family, the relatives subsequently assaulted Vinay inside the house.

CCTV footage from the incident reportedly showed Rekha wearing a red suit and her sister-in-law in a blue suit. The footage also purportedly showed Rekha's two brothers, her father and another man arriving in a car.

Vinay's mother, who lived with the couple, said she had stepped out briefly to arrange water and refreshments for the visitors when the alleged assault began.

When she returned, she allegedly found her son being attacked and tried to intervene and called for help. However, the assault reportedly continued.

The victim's family alleged that the attackers strangled Vinay and kicked and punched him in the chest. They further alleged that the assault was part of a pre-planned conspiracy and claimed that Rekha had switched off CCTV cameras inside the house before the incident.

The allegations are part of the family's account, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

Minutes after the alleged assault, a neighbour was seen carrying Vinay on his shoulder to take him to hospital. Members of Rekha's family were also reportedly seen following them.

Vinay was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Vinay worked as a software engineer with Adobe, a Noida-based company, and reportedly earned an annual package of around Rs 60 lakh.

He had married Rekha around three-and-a-half years ago. The couple had twins, a boy and a girl, who were born around four-and-a-half months ago.

The couple lived on the third floor of the house in Nihal Vihar, while Vinay's parents lived on the floor below.

According to Vinay's family, Rekha used to cook separately and there had been disputes between the couple and her relatives. The family also alleged that one of Rekha's brothers had previously threatened to kill Vinay over minor disagreements.

Police have arrested four people in connection with the case — Rekha, her two brothers and her sister-in-law.

The investigation is underway, and police are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to establish the sequence of events and the circumstances that led to Vinay's death.
