New Delhi, Aug 24: India's 19-year-old Grandmaster Pranesh M emerged champion in the prestigious Kanizsa Open 2026 in Nagykanizsa, Hungary, winning the Group A title after an impressive performance.

Pranesh secured the championship with seven points from nine rounds. In the ninth and final round, he defeated Germany's Vadim Petrovskiy with the white pieces.

Pranesh finished level on points with three other players but secured the title on a better tiebreak. Israel's Or Bronstein finished second, Ukraine's Andrei Volokitin third and India's Karthik Venkataraman fourth.

Pranesh, who hails from Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu, currently has a FIDE rating of 2673 and is ranked 44th in the August 2026 world rankings.

The Indian Embassy in Hungary congratulated Pranesh on winning the Kanizsa Open title and lauded his strong performance in the tournament.

The victory adds another significant achievement to the young Indian Grandmaster's growing international chess career.
