Mumbai, Aug 24: A controversy erupted during a Ganesh idol arrival procession in Mumbai after members of the Mazgaon Morya Ganpati Mandal alleged that eggs and stones were thrown at the procession from a building in the area.

The incident reportedly occurred during the procession of the Mazgaon Morya Ganpati Mandal, held ahead of the Ganeshotsav celebrations. The organisers and their supporters staged protests at the spot until around 1.45 am following the alleged stone and egg throwing.

According to the allegations, the objects were thrown from Continental Heights Tower as the Ganesh idol procession passed through the area.

The incident has now triggered a political reaction, with Maharashtra BJP leader and state minister Nitesh Rane issuing a warning over the alleged incident.

Rane said that if such incidents of throwing eggs occur, people should remember that Eid and Muharram would also arrive. He further referred to the Bhagavad Gita and said it permits taking up arms for the protection of religion.

“Law and order is not the sole responsibility of Hindus,” Rane said, while reacting to the controversy.

The remarks have added a political dimension to the incident as Mumbai prepares for the Ganeshotsav celebrations.

Police are expected to examine the allegations and circumstances surrounding the incident, including the claims that eggs and stones were thrown at the procession from the residential building.
