Chandigarh, Aug 24: BJP national general secretary B L Santosh on Monday said the party will contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab and form the government after securing victory in the upcoming elections.
“Punjab is fully ready for change, and the BJP is fully prepared to make this change a reality. In the upcoming Assembly elections, the BJP will contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab and, by securing a victory, will form its government in the state,” he said.
Santosh was addressing the first zonal meeting in Patiala on the opening day of his two-day organisational visit to Punjab.
Earlier, he was welcomed at Mohali airport by state BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon and state co-in-charge Narendra Singh Raina.
During his visit, Santosh will review the party’s organisational activities and preparations for the Assembly elections through zonal meetings with party leaders and organisational office-bearers across different regions of the state.
The meetings will focus on strengthening the organisation up to the booth level and taking the BJP’s policies and the achievements of the Central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people.
Santosh chaired organisational meetings in Patiala and Bathinda on Monday. On August 25, zonal meetings are scheduled in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar. A separate meeting with state General Secretaries will also be held in Amritsar.
The meetings are aimed at reviewing the functioning of the organisation across different regions of Punjab and further strengthening organisational preparedness, coordination and grassroots participation of party workers.
During his previous visit to Punjab on July 17, Prime Minister Modi, while addressing a rally in Jalandhar, attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and criticised the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal, one of the BJP’s oldest allies.
The Shiromani Akali Dal was among the first parties to support the 13-day Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in 1996, the shortest Prime Ministerial tenure in India’s history.
However, the Akali Dal withdrew from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in September 2020 after differences emerged over the three controversial farm laws, which have since been repealed.
