Puttur, Aug 25: The Puttur town police have registered a case against an individual for allegedly circulating provocative fake news on social media that threatened to disrupt public peace and order.
According to the police, a person operating a WhatsApp account under the name 'Manjunath' circulated a false and inflammatory message using the name of a political party. The message challenged and called for a 'Puttur Bandh' on August 26, with the intent of disturbing public harmony.

Taking serious note of the incident, the Puttur town police have registered an FIR (Crime No 103/2026) against the user of the WhatsApp account. The case has been filed under section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Police have initiated an investigation into the matter and assured that strict legal action will be taken against the accused.
