Guwahati, Aug 26: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) have seized 1.168 kg of suspected heroin worth around Rs 2.33 crore from a passenger train at Guwahati railway station.

The joint operation was conducted by the RPF Crime Prevention and Detection Squad at Guwahati station and the NCB, Guwahati, on Tuesday.

During checking of coach A-2 of the DN Kamrup Express, two passengers travelling on berths 17 and 18 were intercepted. A search of their baggage led to the recovery of four packets containing suspected heroin, also known as brown sugar.

The accused have been identified as Azabur Rahman, 22, and Sahajahan Ali, 18.

The four packets weighed a total of 1.168 kg, with individual packets weighing 292 grams, 289 grams, 310 grams and 277 grams.

The suspected heroin was formally seized by the NCB, Guwahati, following prescribed procedures and in the presence of witnesses. The approximate value of the seized drugs was assessed at Rs 2,33,60,000.

The NCB, Guwahati, has registered a case under Sections 8(c), 21(c) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act dated August 25, 2026.
