Sullia, Sep 1: A government bus travelling from Bellare towards Puttur via Perlampady got stuck after one of its wheels sank into a trench dug along the roadside for the installation of an underground MESCOM cable near Sheni on Monday morning.

The bus operates on the Elimale-Pailaru-Chokkadi-Bellare-Perlampady route to Puttur and was carrying a large number of daily passengers, including school and college students and employees.

As a crane was required to pull the bus out of the trench, passengers were forced to get off and make alternative transport arrangements. The incident caused considerable inconvenience to students and employees travelling to educational institutions and offices.

The bus is reportedly the only major government bus service operating to Puttur via Perlampady. With the service temporarily disrupted, passengers from several areas along the route were also forced to depend on alternative modes of transport.

Local residents alleged that the incident occurred because the trench dug for laying the underground cable along the roadside had not been properly covered or secured.

They have raised concerns over the safety risks posed to vehicles and commuters due to the open trench.
