New Delhi, Sep 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed India’s 7.8 per cent GDP growth in the April-June quarter of 2026-27, describing the performance as a reflection of the country’s collective strength and resilience amid global uncertainties.
In a message reacting to the latest growth figures, Modi congratulated the people of India and credited their determination and hard work for the strong economic performance.

“Heartiest congratulations to my fellow citizens. With a growth rate of 7.8%, the nation is filled with joy,” Modi said.
He noted that India had achieved the growth despite global challenges, including conflicts, disruptions to supply chains and volatility in oil prices. The Prime Minister said the country had continued to progress even as economic stability remained difficult across the world.
Modi also took a veiled swipe at critics of the Indian economy, accusing some of spreading pessimism and what he described as “jhooth ki goonj” or an “echo of lies”.
He said the latest growth figures had demonstrated India’s ability to overcome such challenges and maintain strong economic momentum.
“Rising above all this and cutting through these obstacles, the nation has achieved a growth rate of 7.8%. We must maintain this momentum. We must keep moving forward,” Modi said.
India’s economy grew 7.8 per cent year-on-year in the April-June quarter, exceeding the Reserve Bank of India’s earlier 7 per cent forecast and economists’ expectations. The growth was supported by domestic consumption, investment and strong performance in sectors including manufacturing and financial services.
Modi also stressed the importance of strengthening India’s self-reliance and domestic capabilities to sustain economic growth amid continuing global disruptions.
“For that, becoming Atmanirbhar Bharat is essential,” the Prime Minister said.
