Mangaluru, Sep 1: St Agnes School, CBSE, Mangaluru, celebrated National Sports Day with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit on August 29 in the school hall, paying tribute to the legacy of the legendary hockey player, Major Dhyan Chand.

The event commenced with a prayer service, followed by a graceful prayer dance performed by the students of grade 3D. A warm welcome address was then delivered by Hazel Pinto of grade 6B. The gathering was introduced to the distinguished chief guest, Abhijna Harish Karandakkad, a young and accomplished Yogasana practitioner and Khelo India medallist. She has won an impressive 13 National Gold Medals in Yoga and has earned recognition from the Golden Book, Nobel Book, Indian Book, and Asian Book of World Records. Her remarkable achievements, dedication, and passion for yoga serve as a great inspiration to young students. she was accorded a warm and heartfelt welcome as Nuha Fatima of grade 6B presented her with a beautiful flower pot, symbolising respect, gratitude, and the joy of the occasion. A warm and cheerful welcome was also extended to the physical education teacher, Devika, along with the teachers and students, adding to the spirit of joy and togetherness that marked the celebration.

The significance of National Sports Day was presented creatively through a mock interview featuring renowned sports personalities, highlighting their inspiring journeys, achievements, determination, and perseverance.

A meaningful skit on the importance of outdoor games followed, emphasising the vital role of sports in promoting fitness, teamwork, discipline, and a healthy lifestyle. The celebration gained further vibrancy with an energetic sports themed dance performance, which filled the hall with enthusiasm and excitement.

Adding to the excitement of the programme, a special prize distribution ceremony was held to honour the winners of the wealth out of waste competition. The talented students were recognised and appreciated for their creativity and remarkable ability to transform waste materials into useful and beautiful creations.

The highlight of the programme was the inspiring yoga demonstration by the chief guest, who gracefully showcased a few yogasanas and encouraged the students to embrace yoga as a part of their daily lives. The demonstration created an atmosphere of calmness and discipline, inspiring everyone present to experience the harmony of mind and body.

Addressing the gathering, she shared her passion for yoga and highlighted its importance in promoting physical fitness, mental wellbeing, and a balanced lifestyle.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Swasti Darla of grade 3D, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, the principal, teachers, students, and everyone who contributed to making the celebration meaningful and memorable.

The celebration truly echoed the spirit of sportsmanship and served as a reminder that true victory lies not merely in winning, but in striving for excellence with determination, discipline, and grace.
