New York, Sep 1: Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer was presented with his International Tennis Hall of Fame ring during a special ceremony at the US Open, adding another prestigious honour to his illustrious career.

Kim Clijsters, president of the International Tennis Hall of Fame and a 2017 inductee, presented the ring to Federer at Arthur Ashe Stadium. After putting it on, Federer raised his hand towards the crowd and pumped his fist as the stadium erupted in cheers.

Federer was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame alongside former American player and broadcaster Mary Carillo. The honour comes four years after the former world No. 1 retired from professional tennis in 2022.

Expressing his happiness at returning to New York, Federer said the experience had given him an opportunity to reflect on his career and the people who supported him throughout his journey.

Federer had also made a return to the US Open last week for an exhibition match featuring former members of the ATP No. 1 Club. He played one set against Andy Roddick before teaming up with John McEnroe against Roddick and Andre Agassi.

Asked whether he could consider a full-time return to professional tennis following the comeback appearances of Serena and Venus Williams, Federer ruled out the possibility.

Federer's appearance at the US Open carries special significance, given his remarkable record at the tournament. He won five consecutive US Open titles between 2004 and 2008.

The 45-year-old ended his career with 103 tour-level titles and 20 Grand Slam championships. He also spent 310 weeks as the world's No. 1 player, including a record 237 consecutive weeks at the top of the PIF ATP Rankings.

Federer remains one of the 29 members of the exclusive ATP No. 1 Club.
