New Delhi, Sep 4: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed a two-year ban on India U19 leg-spinner Rohit Yadav for age fraud.

Rohit, who was part of India U19’s recent tour of Sri Lanka in July, was removed from the squad for the upcoming series against Australia after the age discrepancy came to light during a documentation drive conducted by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

According to the CAB, Rohit, who has represented Bengal in domestic cricket, was found to have an age discrepancy of 27 months. The ban has come into effect immediately, with all BCCI-affiliated state associations informed of the decision.

India U19 are scheduled to face Australia in five one-day matches and three multi-day games later this month.

The CAB has also barred 64 other players following similar age discrepancies. Among the prominent names is left-arm pacer Ravi Kumar, who was part of India’s victorious U19 World Cup squad in 2022 and made his senior debut for Bengal the same year.

Ravi Kumar’s records from his debut through the 2025-26 season have been declared invalid, with his age discrepancy reportedly extending to 40 months.

The BCCI has been taking measures to curb age fraud in junior cricket for several years. In 2020, the board introduced an amnesty scheme under which players could voluntarily disclose discrepancies in their age records and avoid suspension.

However, players found guilty of concealing discrepancies faced disciplinary action.

The BCCI has also strengthened its age-verification process, requiring U19 players to submit birth certificates along with educational certificates and other supporting documents.
