Ahmedabad, Sep 5: A bomb threat email claiming that RDX explosives had been planted at courts in Ahmedabad and Surat triggered a major security alert on Saturday, prompting intensive searches at the Gujarat High Court, Ahmedabad Metropolitan and Sessions Courts and Surat District Court.
According to preliminary information, the threatening email was received around noon and reportedly mentioned bombs being planted on court premises in both cities. Police, fire brigade personnel, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) teams and dog squads were immediately mobilised for extensive security checks.
Although Saturday was a court holiday, security agencies began intensive searches at the Gujarat High Court and other court complexes in Ahmedabad. The Ahmedabad Metropolitan and Sessions Courts were also reportedly named in the threatening email.
The message allegedly claimed that RDX bombs had been planted in all courts in Ahmedabad and Surat, prompting authorities to treat the threat seriously and launch a coordinated search operation.
In Surat, senior police officers, bomb detection and disposal teams and dog squads rushed to the district court premises. Lawyers, court employees and others present at the complex were moved out as a precaution, following which security personnel conducted a thorough search of the entire campus.
Authorities are examining all aspects of the threat, including the source and authenticity of the email. Investigators are expected to trace the origin of the message and determine whether it was intended to cause panic.
The Gujarat High Court and other government institutions have received similar bomb threat emails in the past, leading to large-scale security operations. Previous searches, however, reportedly found no suspicious objects or explosives.
A similar situation appeared to be developing in the latest incident, with no suspicious object found during the initial phase of the searches, according to the information available.
Security agencies, however, continued their operations and maintained strict vigilance, with officials refusing to take the threat lightly. A clearer picture is expected after the bomb squads and police complete their detailed searches and investigation.
The alleged RDX bomb threat has once again placed court complexes in Ahmedabad and Surat under heightened security, with police and specialised teams continuing checks across the premises.
