New Delhi, Sep 5: A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a complaint with the Delhi Police against a Jantar Mantar protester and her father, alleging that malicious social media posts insulting Hindu gods and goddesses were published from an account linked to the protester.

The complaint, filed at Mandir Marg police station, alleges that the posts contained offensive references to Hindu deities, including Lord Shiva, Lord Krishna, Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Durga.

The lawyer has sought registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.

According to the complaint, the alleged social media content amounts to an offence and warrants investigation into the circumstances under which it was created and circulated.

The complaint also points out that the account holder is a minor and would therefore be subject to provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. It has consequently sought examination of the minor's father regarding his alleged control over the account and whether he failed to take steps to remove the disputed content.

Police are expected to examine the social media posts, determine their origin and authenticity and assess whether the allegations disclose offences under the provisions cited in the complaint.

The complaint comes amid heightened attention around the Jantar Mantar protest and related controversies involving the minor protester and her family.
