Mangaluru, Sep 12: The PTA Committee of St Aloysius College Higher Primary School, Kodialbail, conducted an anti-drug awareness programme for the students on September 12, at the school auditorium. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to encourage them to make responsible and healthy choices.

The session was attended by the students of classes VI and VII, PTA representatives, parents and teachers.

The programme was graced by Anantha Padmanabha, police inspector, Mangaluru East police station (Kadri), as the chief guest, along with Sabitha Shetty, founder of Tapasya, an organization that provides hope, comfort and comprehensive support to cancer patients and terminally ill individuals.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Jositta Noronha, Headmistress, who welcomed the dignitaries, parents, teachers and students and highlighted the importance of educating young minds about the dangers of substance abuse.

During the awareness session, Anantha Padmanabha and Sabitha Shetty interacted with the students and created awareness about the dangers associated with drugs and substance abuse. They explained how young people may be influenced by unhealthy habits and peer pressure and emphasized the importance of staying away from situations that could lead them towards drug use. They also spoke about the serious physical, emotional, social and academic consequences of addiction and encouraged the students to seek guidance from parents, teachers and trusted adults whenever they face difficulties or pressure.

The speakers urged the students to develop positive habits, choose good friends, participate in constructive activities and have the courage to say 'No' to drugs. The session served as an important reminder that awareness, self-discipline and timely guidance can help young people lead safe, healthy and responsible lives.

As part of the programme, a collage making competition on drug awareness was organized for the students. Through their creative work, the students expressed messages highlighting the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of making healthy choices. The winners of the competition were awarded prizes by the chief guest.

As a token of appreciation, mementoes were presented to Anantha Padmanabha and Sabitha Shetty by the headmistress in recognition of their valuable contribution towards creating awareness among the students.

The programme was compered by Sameena, while the vote of thanks was proposed by teacher Deepsika D’Souza.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from the school community to promote awareness, positive values and a healthy, drug-free environment for children.
