Top Teams Reach Quarters at World TT

Dortmund (Germany), Mar 29 (IANS): The fourth day of the World Table Tennis Championship saw expected group toppers and some less-fancied teams moving into the second round.

In the women's category, China, Singapore and Japan finished undefeated in their groups. Hong Kong finished first based on Wednesday's direct win against South Korea (3-2).

In the last 16, all group winners have a bye while the second and third placed teams take on to the court.

The winner of Poland versus Romania will meet hot favourites China Friday.

In the men's tournament, champions China, Germany and South Korea remained unbeaten group winners after five matches.

Japan was lucky to top Group D. Japan and Belarus both finished on nine points but the Japanese had won their first match against Belarus. Poland finished third and went to the last 16 with Belarus.
