Mangaluru, Sep 13: National Nutrition Week 2026 was inaugurated at the RAPCC Hall, Wenlock District Hospital, on Monday, September 7, under the theme ‘Discover the Power of Nutrition.’ The programme was jointly organised by Wenlock District Hospital (RAPCC) and Masood College & School of Nursing, with the aim of promoting awareness on balanced nutrition, child health, hygiene and healthy food practices.
Dr Shivprakash D S, district surgeon and superintendent, Wenlock District Hospital, presided over the programme, while Dr Thimmayya H R, District Health and Family Welfare officer, inaugurated the event.



Dr Madhusudan, resident medical officer; Dr Rajesh B, reproductive and child health officer; Dr Sucheta Rao, HOD, department of paediatrics, KMC; and Dr Rajesh B M, unit chief, department of paediatrics, KMC, were among the chief guests. Dr Mohammed Abdul Basith, senior specialist; Dr Veena Gretta Tauro, principal, Masood School & College of Nursing; Puttaraju, AAO, Wenlock District Hospital; and Tresiyamma, Matron, Wenlock District Hospital, were the special guests. Dr K Krishna, senior specialist, served as the resource person.
The programme included awareness sessions on child nutrition, personal hygiene and nutritional deficiencies, along with role play, educational games, nutritious food displays and food-preparation demonstrations. Special emphasis was placed on nutrition for children aged 24 months to five years, prevention of deficiencies such as anaemia and vitamin deficiencies, and the importance of hygiene and healthy food habits.
A practical Anganwadi food preparation demonstration highlighted the preparation of nutritious, hygienic and affordable food using locally available ingredients. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, emphasising that good nutrition, hygiene, adequate play, rest and regular health monitoring are essential for healthy child development.
