Mangaluru, Sep 15: Expert PU College, Valachil organised a health awareness session on 'Dysmenorrhea Crippling the Future' to educate students on menstrual health.
The session was led by a panel of doctors including Dr Shivabasava Swamy, gynaecologist from Shree Mruthyunjaya Nursing Home, Davanagere, Dr Deepak, laparoscopic surgeon, Dr Raksha Manjunath, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr Vishwanath, Dr Divyashree, Dr Gouri and Dr Kishore.
The doctors said that dysmenorrhea, or severe menstrual cramps, is often ignored as normal, but it should not be. They said it affects students' studies, mental health and future if left untreated. Painful periods are not normal and should not be suffered in silence.











Dr Shivabasava Swamy stressed the need for early diagnosis, lifestyle changes and timely medical consultation.
Dr Deepak explained the causes of dysmenorrhea, the importance of regular exercise to reduce pain, and the modern treatments available.
Dr Raksha Manjunath spoke about the importance of balanced diet, menstrual hygiene and stress management. She asked students to break the stigma around menstruation and speak openly about their health.
The session ended with an interactive discussion where students shared their doubts and cleared myths about menstruation. The doctors advised students to prioritize their health and support each other.
Principal Prof Subramanya Udupa appreciated the initiative and thanked the doctors with a memento.
Vice principal Druthi V Hegde, chief resident mentor Anitha Shetty, staff members and students were present. Biology lecturer Pratiksha Venugopal introduced the guests, and student Charvi V welcomed and compered the programme.
