Adding to its phenomenal week, IIM Bangalore has also secured the 20th position in LinkedIn's latest ranking of the top 100 global business schools, with eight Indian institutions making the list.
The ranking, published by LinkedIn evaluates full-time MBA programmes using data on career outcomes, alumni networks, leadership and gender diversity.
The list is led by Stanford Graduate School of Business, followed by Harvard Business School and The Wharton School. France's INSEAD is fourth, while India's Indian School of Business (ISB) is the highest-ranked Indian institution at fifth position.
Among the eight Indian institutions featured in LinkedIn's top 100 list, ISB leads the domestic pack at fifth globally. Among the IIMs, IIM Ahmedabad leads at 19th position, followed closely by IIM Bangalore at 20th and IIM Calcutta at 21st.
The other Indian institutions on the list are IIM Lucknow, ranked 31st; IIM Indore, ranked 33rd; Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), ranked 62nd; and IIM Udaipur, ranked 83rd. This means six of the eight Indian entries are IIMs, while ISB and IIFT account for the other two. None of the IIMs were ranked among the top 10 positions.
Global domination and evaluation metrics
Several United States (US) institutions occupy seven of the top 10 positions. Stanford, Harvard and Wharton take the first three spots, while MIT Sloan is sixth, Dartmouth's Tuck School of Business seventh, Columbia Business School eighth and Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management ninth.
The London Business School is ranked 10th, while INSEAD is the highest-ranked institution outside the US and UK in the top 10.
Outlining its methodology, LinkedIn stated that the ranking uses five pillars: hiring and demand, ability to advance, network strength, leadership potential and gender diversity. The first four pillars carry equal weight, while gender diversity has half the weight. Hiring and demand draws on LinkedIn hiring and recruiter InMail data for recent graduates from the 2020-2025 cohorts.
The methodology also examines promotions, alumni progression to director- or VP-level roles, alumni connections and entrepreneurship or C-suite experience.
To be eligible, programmes had to be full-time MBA programmes accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) or the European Foundation for Management Development Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), alongside a requirement of at least 1,500 alumni, including at least 400 graduates from the 2020-2025 cohort.
