Udupi, Sep 22: MLA Yashpal Suvarna met Health minister U T Khader and submitted a memorandum seeking the early inauguration of the newly constructed Udupi District Hospital and the upgradation of the Brahmavar Community Health Centre into a taluk hospital, among other healthcare-related demands.
The construction of the Udupi District Hospital, a long-standing demand of the people of the district, commenced in December 2021 and is currently nearing completion. Suvarna urged the minister to ensure that the remaining works are completed at the earliest and that the hospital is equipped with all necessary facilities, treatment services and adequate staff before being opened to the public.
He also sought the early commissioning of the 250-bed district hospital with comprehensive healthcare facilities to cater to the needs of people across the district.
Highlighting the healthcare requirements of Brahmavar, Suvarna said the town has been a taluk headquarters for nearly eight years and is witnessing rapid development. The Community Health Centre at Brahmavar currently serves people from more than 30 villages. He urged the government to upgrade the centre into a taluk hospital to provide comprehensive and quality healthcare services locally.
The MLA also sought adequate financial assistance for the proper maintenance and functioning of the Kusuma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Mother and Child Hospital.
He further urged the minister to take special measures regarding the proposed B R Shetty Hi-Tech Super Specialty Hospital to be developed under the PPP model in front of the Kusuma Shambhu Shetty Mother and Child Hospital. Suvarna sought appropriate utilisation of the excavated area created for the proposed hospital parking facility, including provision for vehicle parking and establishment of a government nursing and paramedical college.
Responding to the memorandum, minister U T Khader assured Suvarna that necessary action would be taken on the demands.
