Mumbai, Sep 23: Actor Dhanush has postponed the release of his upcoming Tamil film ‘Om’ to avoid a clash with Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Jailer 2’, the actor announced on Wednesday.

Dhanush shared the update on X, formerly Twitter, saying the decision was taken out of respect for Rajinikanth, whose film is scheduled to release on October 15, a day before the earlier planned release of ‘Om’.

“In times like these, shifting the release of a film comes with its own set of challenges. Our superstar, Rajinikanth sir, the man whom we have all admired and worshipped over the years has his film arriving on October 15, just a day before ours. Out of immense respect for him, we have decided to postpone the release of our film, OM, to a later date,” Dhanush wrote.

He also said ‘Om’ would not release during Diwali this year as another film starring Suriya had already been announced for the festive period.

“In all fairness, they announced their date first, and we strongly believe that big films should have a mutual understanding and respect each other's decisions, keeping the larger welfare of cinema and the industry in mind. We will announce our new release date very soon,” he added.

Dhanush was earlier married to Aishwarya Rajinikanth, daughter of Rajinikanth.

Meanwhile, ‘Jailer 2’ is the sequel to the 2024 film ‘Jailer’, which featured Rajinikanth as a retired jailer who takes on an organised syndicate involved in the smuggling of artefacts.

In the first film, Rajinikanth's character uses a criminal network he had built across India to take on the syndicate, drawing on his reputation and principles developed during his years as a jailer.
