Mumbai, Sep 26: The Maharashtra government has declared drought in 265 of the state's 358 talukas, with the drought-hit areas accounting for nearly 75 per cent of the state's talukas, according to a report on Saturday.

The decision was taken after considering rainfall conditions and their impact on agriculture. The 265 talukas where “Trigger-1” under the state's drought criteria has been activated have been brought under the drought declaration.

The rainfall situation has affected several parts of Maharashtra, with inadequate rainfall impacting the kharif crop in some areas. The shortfall has raised concerns over agricultural production as well as water availability in rural areas.

Following the declaration, various drought-relief measures will be implemented in the affected talukas in accordance with government norms. The administration is expected to take further steps to provide assistance to farmers and residents in the affected areas.

With 265 of the state's 358 talukas covered by the declaration, nearly three-fourths of Maharashtra's talukas are now classified under drought conditions.
