Mangaluru, Sep 26: Water came alive through colour, creativity, movement and meaningful action as students of grades I to V of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, explored the theme “Living Waters” as part of the Season of Creation 2026. Through a vibrant array of artistic and hands-on activities, the young learners discovered that water is not merely a resource but a precious gift that sustains every form of life.
The journey began with the little learners of grade I, who created a colourful world of fish, water droplets, rain, mountains and flowing streams. Their water-saving slogans added a strong message to the display, reminding everyone that every drop counts and that water must be valued and conserved for people, plants and animals.
Carrying the message forward, grade II explored both the importance of water and the need to keep it clean. Classes II A and II D presented “Jal Hi Jeevan Hai,” highlighting the sources and significance of water, while II B and II C showcased “Swachh Jal, Swasth Kal,” portraying the difference between clean and polluted water and the harmful effects of water pollution. By collecting materials, creating models and working together, the students discovered that caring for water sources is an important way of caring for Creation.
The theme took a practical turn in grade III, where students presented a lively tableau on Rainwater Harvesting with the message “Every Drop Counts.” Each section depicted a different stage of the process, from clouds and rainfall to rooftop collection, storage and reuse for plants and gardening. Taking on the role of “Water Protectors,” the students also used placards and water-saving slogans to spread awareness. Through role-play and props, they demonstrated how rainwater can be conserved and wisely reused.
Grade IV explored the deeper connection between water and life through three engaging projects. Students of IV A and IV B created a living waters mandala, representing water, plants, animals, human beings and other forms of life, with blue threads connecting each element to a water droplet. IV C and IV D demonstrated water purification using natural filtering materials such as gravel, sand, charcoal and cotton, while IV E created a water cycle model depicting evaporation, condensation and precipitation. These activities transformed scientific concepts into meaningful experiences while developing creativity, teamwork, observation and communication skills.
The exploration continued in grade V, where students expressed their understanding of “Living Waters” through the performing arts, drama, craft and poetry. “Rhythms of Living Water” saw V A students use dance and movement to celebrate the life-giving power of water. V B presented “Tale of Living Waters,” a short drama highlighting the importance of keeping rivers and water sources clean. Through “Gratitude in Every Drop,” V C expressed appreciation for water through colourful thank-you cards filled with thoughtful messages and artwork. For V D, simple blue paper drops became “Drops of Hope,” carrying messages such as “Save Water, Save Life.” The students also took an oath to conserve water and use every drop wisely. Bringing a lyrical touch to the theme, V E presented “Poetic Whispers of Waters,” with students reciting poems celebrating creation, water and the wonders of the natural world.
Across these diverse activities, the students moved beyond learning about water to experiencing, expressing and taking responsibility for it. Every model, performance, artwork and message echoed the same call, to conserve water, protect water sources and recognise our shared responsibility towards creation.
“Listen closely… the Earth has a heartbeat, and it flows with water.” Through the season of creation, the young learners of MCCS learnt to listen to that heartbeat, cherish every drop and become responsible guardians of our Common Home, Mother Earth.
