Udupi, Sep 27: Adarsha Hospital, Udupi, organized a free mega heart check-up camp on Sunday, September 27, on the occasion of World Heart Day. The camp was held at the hospital premises to create awareness about heart-related diseases and the importance of preventive healthcare.
Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna inaugurated the camp in the presence of hospital officials, doctors and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Yashpal Suvarna said Udupi is known for several achievements and appreciated Dr G S Chandrashekar for contributing to society alongside his medical service. He said awareness about diseases plays an important role in reducing health risks. Referring to World Heart Day, he appreciated Adarsha Hospital for organizing a meaningful awareness programme.
“People have many dreams, but good health is essential to turn those dreams into reality. Awareness programmes of this nature are beneficial to society. Education and health are two important areas that receive priority in our country. Adarsha Hospital has become a household name, and we should all join hands with the hospital in creating greater health awareness,” he said.
Dr G S Chandrashekar, medical director of Adarsha Hospital, in his introductory remarks, expressed concern over the increasing incidence of heart attacks and heart-related diseases in India, including among younger people. He said cases of severe heart-related conditions are now being reported even among young individuals.
He said unhealthy food habits, lack of physical activity and stress are among the major factors contributing to heart-related diseases. He stressed the importance of maintaining a healthy body mass index, controlling diabetes, exercising regularly, reducing stress and getting adequate sleep.
Referring to the World Health Organization's emphasis on prevention, Dr Chandrashekar said adopting healthy lifestyle practices could significantly reduce the risk of heart attacks. He added that Adarsha Hospital has been conducting awareness programmes with the objective of promoting a healthier society.
Dr Suhas G C, director and heart specialist at Adarsha Hospital, said healthy food, regular exercise, adequate sleep and sufficient rest play an important role in maintaining heart health. He also stressed the importance of regular health check-ups.
Heart specialists Dr Srikanth Krishna and Dr Vishu Kumar B, along with cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Dr Guruprasad D Rai, delivered informative talks on heart health and preventive measures.
As part of the camp, free RBS, Echo, CEG, TMT and lipid profile tests were conducted for the public. The hospital also announced that angiogram, angioplasty and CABG surgery would be offered at discounted rates from September 29 to October 4.
