Ambala, Sep 27: At least two people were killed and several others injured after a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Dhulkot village of Haryana’s Ambala district on Sunday evening.

Several workers are feared trapped under the debris, with officials estimating that 15 to 20 people may be buried beneath the rubble. A massive rescue operation is underway.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire brigade, police and local ambulance services have been deployed to the site to carry out rescue operations.

Ambala City Sub-Divisional Magistrate Darshan Kumar said several people were hospitalised following the incident. Of them, four have been discharged, while five others are undergoing treatment.

He said the contractor and owner of the under-construction building were absconding, and efforts were underway to trace them. Further action would be taken accordingly.

“There is no concrete information yet on how many people are trapped inside. The exact number will be determined as the operation progresses,” Kumar said, according to news agency.

“Estimates range from 15 to 20 people, but nothing is confirmed yet. A total of 12 individuals have been identified so far, including the deceased. The ownership details of the building are not yet clear,” he added.

Congress Lok Sabha member Kumari Selja described the incident as extremely tragic and distressing and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. She also wished a speedy recovery for the injured and urged the administration to provide assistance to the affected families.

In a post on X, Selja appealed to the administration to expedite rescue operations, safely evacuate all workers trapped under the debris and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.
