Mangaluru, Sep 29: St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) hosted a formal reception and felicitation programme in honour of Padma Shri Prem Watsa on 28th September 2026 at the Fr L F Rasquinha Auditorium, LCRI. The occasion brought together the university leadership, faculty, NCC cadets, and students for a memorable morning of warm hospitality, cultural performances, and inspiring reflection.
Dr Praveen Martis SJ, vice chancellor presided over the programme. Nalini Watsa, wife of Padmashree Prem Watsa, Dr Melwyn DCunha, pro vice chancellor, Dr Denzil Lobo, former director of AIMIT, Dr Ronald Nazareth, registrar of the University, and Dr Geetha M Pinto, convenor of the programme were on the dais.
The programme began with a soulful prayer by the choir team, which set a reflective and respectful tone for the morning. The welcome was then celebrated through two vibrant cultural performances, a welcome dance by Remona and group followed by an additional cultural item by Shravani and group. The two performances flowed seamlessly into one another, delighting the guests and the audience alike.
Padma Shri Prem Watsa was honoured and felicitated during the programme.
In his response, Padma Shri Prem Watsa shared thoughts that resonated strongly with the students present. He highlighted a guiding principle for life and work: “Work as hard as you can, as if everything depends on you; pray as hard as you can, as if everything depends on God.” He emphasised the importance of balancing personal effort with faith, encouraging students to give their best without holding back while remaining grounded in humility and trust in a higher power.
The presidential address was delivered by COL Rev Dr Praveen Martis. Dr Glenson Toney, assistant dean, School of Engineering compered the programme. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Geetha Pinto, convenor of the programme. The event concluded with the University Anthem, rendered by the choir team.
