Maramon, Sep 30: A 21-year-old woman working as a receptionist trainee at a resort in Maramon near Kozhencherry was allegedly stabbed to death by a 28-year-old man on the resort premises on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Dinsha S of Kulathupuzha in Kollam. The Koipuram police arrested Jithu of Kozhencherry in connection with the incident and launched an investigation.

According to police, Dinsha and Jithu were previously acquainted. Police suspect that Jithu attacked her after she decided to end their relationship, though the exact motive is yet to be conclusively established.

The incident occurred around 2pm. Police said Jithu called Dinsha from the resort to a spot nearby, where they spoke for around 10 minutes. He then allegedly took out a knife and stabbed her several times in the neck. He allegedly continued the attack even after she fell to the ground.

As the attack took place, Jithu allegedly shouted that Dinsha had “betrayed” him, police said. Investigators suspect that he had arrived at the resort with the intention of killing her and had purchased the knife online.

Hearing Dinsha's cries, resort staff and security personnel rushed to the spot and overpowered Jithu. They reportedly tied him to a tree before handing him over to the police. Other reports also said the resort staff restrained him after he discarded the knife.

Dinsha was rushed to Muthoot Hospital in Kozhencherry but was declared dead on arrival, according to the information provided to police. Other reports said she was taken to hospital immediately after the attack but could not be saved.

Police are questioning Jithu to establish the circumstances and motive behind the killing. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
