Mangaluru, Sep 30: A major blast followed by a fire was reported at the Coker Hydrotreater (CHT) unit at the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) plant near Jokatte on Wednesday September 30.
MRPL PRO Dr Rudolph said the fire has been brought under control with the unit evacuated and there is no major cause for concern.
According to Dr Rudolph, two persons were injured in the plant. Rajesh Baptist sustained burn injuries covering around 35 per cent of his body and was shifted to a private hospital for treatment. He is currently in the ICU, and doctors have said that he is out of danger.
Another six persons who sustained minor injuries at the adjacent office received outpatient treatment and underwent a check-up.
He reiterated that there is nothing of major concern and the situation is under control.
