Bantwal: Four held for betting on cockfight in Vittal

Bantwal, Oct 3: Four persons were taken into custody for allegedly organising a cockfight involving betting at a government site in Peruvai village within the limits of Vittal police station on October 2.

Based on information received by Vittal police station Sub-Inspector Ramakrishna that a cockfight was being conducted by placing money as bets at Peruvai, he, along with police personnel, visited the spot and confirmed the activity.

The police conducted a raid and took Krishappa (59), Lakshmana Naik (38), Shobith Raj (29) and Yuvaraj (46) into custody. The chickens present at the spot, Rs 3,050 in cash allegedly used for betting on the cockfight, and knives used for the cockfight were seized.

A case has been registered at Vittal police station under Crime No. 203/2026 under Sections 87 and 93 of the Karnataka Police Act, Sections 3, 11(1)(m)(ii) and 11(1)(n) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Section 112 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Investigation is underway.
