Bengaluru, Oct 4: Tourists visiting Karnataka’s popular destinations could soon get a taste of Mayura Hotels without having to look for a restaurant, with the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) set to roll out ‘Mayura Ruchi on Wheels’, a mobile food service offering quality, hygienic and tasty food at tourist hotspots.
Tourism minister K J George said the initiative is aimed at taking food prepared at KSTDC’s Mayura Hotels directly to places frequented by tourists, rather than restricting the service to hotel premises.

Speaking after a meeting with KSTDC and Tourism Department officials in the city on Saturday, George said food vans would be deployed in phases at Hampi, Madikeri, Jog Falls, Mysuru, Nandi Hills and major tourist locations in Bengaluru.
KSTDC currently operates 24 Mayura Hotels across Karnataka. George noted that at some destinations, Mayura Hotels are located away from the main tourist centres, making it difficult for visitors to access their food. The new mobile service model is intended to bridge that gap by taking Mayura’s quality food directly to tourists.
The food vans will serve popular breakfast items, snacks, meals and select regional specialities from different parts of Karnataka. The initiative will also introduce tourists to the state’s diverse food culture, George said.
KSTDC chairman M Srinivas said the corporation was taking up such a mobile food service initiative for the first time under George’s guidance.
“Making Mayura’s quality food available at places that attract large numbers of tourists is our goal. Giving priority to local delicacies will also create employment and business opportunities for local people,” he said.
Tourism Department secretary Dr Ram Prasath Manohar V said food was an important part of the overall tourist experience.
“Through ‘Mayura Ruchi on Wheels’, KSTDC’s hospitality services are being extended beyond its hotels. The objective of this initiative is to bring local food culture, quality service and tourist convenience together on a single platform,” he said.
