Earthquakes occur due to movements of tectonic plates beneath the Earth's crust. When these plates collide or slide against each other along fault lines, accumulated energy can be suddenly released, generating seismic waves that cause the ground to shake.
Delhi-NCR is considered seismically vulnerable and falls under Zone IV, the second-highest seismic risk category in India. The region has experienced several earthquakes in recent years.
