New Delhi, Oct 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked 25 years in public office by calling for renewed national resolve with the slogan “We will do it” and setting five major goals for the country.
Addressing a large gathering at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, Modi said the occasion should not be limited to remembering his 25-year journey but should instead be used to strengthen the country’s resolve and pursue ambitious national goals.

Modi took oath as the chief minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, succeeding Keshubhai Patel. He later served as Gujarat chief minister before becoming prime minister in 2014.
During his address, Modi outlined five major goals — making India a developed nation by 2047, becoming one of the world’s top three economies, building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, turning India into a global manufacturing hub, hosting the Olympic Games and taking the country further into space.
Each time Modi announced a goal, the gathering responded with “We will do it”.
“This energy, this enthusiasm, this self-confidence is extraordinary,” Modi said.
He said the occasion was a time to renew the country’s resolve and called on citizens to work towards goals that match India’s potential.
Modi said India’s economic strength and resilience had grown over the years, highlighting the country’s focus on reforms, exports and self-reliance.
“Today, we ourselves are the makers of our destiny,” he said, adding that it would be an injustice to the country’s potential to pursue only modest or easy goals.
The five targets outlined by Modi cover economic growth, self-reliance, manufacturing, space exploration and India’s ambition to host the Olympic Games. He urged the nation to set major goals and work collectively towards achieving them.
