Udupi, Oct 10: Hiriyadka police have arrested two persons for allegedly stealing cattle from Kukkuje in Karkala taluk and transporting them illegally to a slaughterhouse for sale. The police rescued four cattle and seized the goods tempo allegedly used to transport the animals.
According to the police, on October 9, 2026, at around 7.30 pm, personnel received information that cattle were being transported illegally in a goods tempo bearing registration number KA 20 AA 5197 from the Harikhande side towards Hiriyadka.


Police personnel spotted the vehicle near Kotnakatte in Bommarabettu village and signalled the driver to stop. However, the driver allegedly ignored the signal and continued towards Hiriyadka. The police were alerted, and the vehicle was intercepted near the Hiriyadka police station junction at Anjaru.
Upon inspection, the police found four cattle inside the vehicle, along with two persons, including the driver. The accused were identified as Abdul Sattar (54), a resident of Sarkarigudde, Subhash Nagar, Kurkalu village, Kaup, and Yogish Naik (49), a resident of Maladabettu, Innanje village, Kaup taluk. Yogish Naik reportedly claimed ownership of the vehicle.
During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to stealing the cattle while they were grazing near the house of Krishna Poojary, a resident of Palabettu in Kukkuje village, Karkala taluk. They were reportedly transporting the animals to a slaughterhouse for sale.
The cattle, valued at approximately Rs 20,000, had allegedly been tied by their necks and legs with nylon ropes and transported in a cruel manner without the required permission. The goods tempo used for transportation was valued at around Rs 3 lac.
The accused were produced before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Udupi sub-division deputy superintendent of police Belliyappa and circle inspector Gopikrishna, with PSI Punit Kumar B E and other police personnel participating.
