Mumbai, Oct 12: A 17-year-old girl was found dead at her home in Kurla on October 10, with her father accusing a family friend entrusted with looking after his children of killing her, police said.

The deceased, Priyadevi, was at home with her seven-year-old brother and family friend Ramsingh Yadav (36) when the incident allegedly occurred.

Her father, Basantlal Kori (38), had entrusted Yadav with looking after the children while his wife travelled to Uttar Pradesh with their elder son for medical treatment.

According to the complaint, Kori and his wife left for Lokmanya Tilak Terminus around 11.30 pm on October 9. At around 4.30 am on October 10, Yadav allegedly called the family and informed them that Priyadevi was lying unconscious outside the house.

The parents returned home and found their daughter unconscious, with visible injuries to her neck and chin. She was rushed to Bhabha Hospital, where doctors declared her dead at 5.20 am.

The post-mortem report reportedly attributed her death to asphyxia caused by compression of the neck, accompanied by a head injury.

Kori accused Yadav of strangling his daughter and inflicting the fatal head injury before lodging a police complaint.

Police said the allegations were being investigated.
