Chennai, Oct 13: The Madras High Court on Tuesday granted interim protection against the unauthorised online exhibition of Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2, two days ahead of its scheduled theatrical release on October 15.

Justice P B Balaji passed the interim injunction on a suit filed by Sun TV Network Limited, the Chennai-based production company behind the film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The order restrains unauthorised exhibition of the movie on websites and other digital platforms to protect the producer’s copyright.

The court also directed its Registry to issue a web copy of the order by the end of Tuesday to enable the production house to alert service providers before the film’s theatrical release.

According to a report in The Hindu, Sun TV Network’s counsel, Rahul Balaji, sought an early copy of the order, pointing out that pirated versions of films often surface on digital platforms within 30 minutes of their worldwide release.

He said the order needed to be communicated to telecommunications companies, cable television operators and other intermediaries to prevent unauthorised distribution.

Sun TV Network filed a John Doe suit, a legal action seeking protection against unidentified individuals or entities suspected of copyright infringement. The interim injunction is intended to prevent unauthorised online exhibition and distribution of the film.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is the sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2023 blockbuster Jailer. The superstar returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, a retired police officer drawn into a dangerous confrontation with a criminal network.

The sequel features an ensemble cast including Vijay Sethupathi, S J Suryah, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Yogi Babu and Hrithik Roshan.

Produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 is scheduled to hit theatres on October 15, 2026.
