Panaji, Oct 16: A resident of Balli in Quepem has alleged that he was cheated of Rs 99.5 lakh after paying for two bungalows in Varca based on assurances of lawful ownership and execution of sale deeds.

Acting on a complaint filed by Babu Kolekar, Cuncolim police registered an FIR against Leena Mendes, a resident of Bardez, for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.

According to the complaint, between June 2023 and the present, Mendes allegedly claimed ownership of a bungalow at Calata in Varca and induced Kolekar to pay Rs 75 lakh towards its purchase.

She subsequently showed him another bungalow in Varca and allegedly accepted an additional Rs 24.5 lakh from him.

Kolekar alleged that despite receiving a total of Rs 99.5 lakh, Mendes failed to execute the sale deeds in his name, following which he approached the police.

The case is being investigated by PSI Kishor Velip of Cuncolim police station.
