Panaji, Nov 8: Archbishop-Patriarch of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao on Saturday extended Diwali greetings to the Hindu community, urging people to strengthen bonds of fraternity, mutual respect and communal harmony in Goa.

In a message issued on the occasion of Diwali, Cardinal Ferrao, along with Auxiliary Bishop Simiao Fernandes, conveyed festive greetings to Hindu brothers and sisters on behalf of the Catholic community in the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman.

Describing Diwali as a festival symbolising the triumph of light over darkness and truth over untruth, the Archbishop said the occasion offered an opportunity for people to cultivate love and compassion.

“As homes light up with traditional diyas, we are called to kindle love and compassion within our hearts,” he said.

Referring to the Vatican Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, Cardinal Ferrao highlighted the shared responsibility of people of different faiths to build pathways towards peace. He said lasting peace could be achieved through authentic dialogue, mutual respect and everyday interactions.

“Goa stands as a beacon of communal harmony. Let us use this festive season to strengthen our bonds of fraternity, working hand-in-hand to dispel prejudice and care for one another,” he said.

The Archbishop expressed hope that the festival of lights would illuminate people's hearts and bring lasting peace, good health and happiness to all families.
