Chinese Who Harm Food to be Banned for Life

Beijing, Apr 9 (IANS): Chinese who are convicted of crimes related to food safety will be banned from the food industry for life under a new law.

An amendment to the Beijing Food Safety Regulation aims to hand out tougher punishment for food safety violation, the China Daily reported.

Under current regulations, which took effect in 2007, people whose licenses are revoked are banned from the food business for three years.

People who are convicted of food safety crimes cannot be "legal representatives" or "responsible officials" in the industry.

"Those who have been convicted of food safety crimes shall never again be engaged in the industry," it said.
