ULFA Hideout Raided, Bomb Recovered

Guwahati, Apr 16 (IANS): Police in Assam Monday recovered a bomb, bomb making equipment, gelatin sticks and extortion notes belonging to the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), officials said.

The seizure, which foiled the group's attempt to carry out subversive activities, took place in Upper Assam's Sivsagar district, police said.

"We received specific information that a group of 10 ULFA cadres were taking shelter in Lukhuragaon under Sonari subdivision in the district. We launched an operation, but the group managed to escape before we arrived the spot," said an official giving details of the incident.

He said a bomb, some gelatin sticks, batteries, fuse wires, extortion notes and equipment used in making bombs were recovered from the house.

Nidhiram Arandhara, the owner of the house, is being interrogated.

"The group of 10 ULFA cadres had entered the state a few days back to carry out subversive activities. The group was led by senior leader of the outfit, Pradip Gogoi," a police official said on condition of anonymity.
