Mangalore, Apr 21: A lecture on 'Emergency Medicine' was held for medical personnel on Friday April 20 at the Decennial Memorial Hall of Father Muller Medical College campus.
The head of the department of Medicine Dr Narasimha Hegde welcomed the gathering and introduced the dignitaries. Fr Patrick Rodrigues expressed his thoughts regarding implementation of the upcoming field. Dr Sagar Galwankar, an authority in the field, presently practicing at the University of South Florida as well as Seven Hills Health City, Mumbai kept the audience gripped with his humorous yet resolute talk.
The event was also graced by the presence of the administrator Fr Denis D'sa, the chief of medical services Dr Sanjeev Rai and the dean of FMMC Dr Jayaprakash Alva.
Dr H Prabhakar, Chief Interventional Cardiologist of FMMC Hospital was the convenor of the event.
Dr Sagar spoke about how Emergency Medicine needs to be inculcated in the curriculum of medical education in India both as a post-graduation MD course as well as a super-specialization DM course, as has already been done in certain premier institutions of India like AIIMS, New Delhi and St John's, Bangalore. His talk was followed by an interactive session with the audience.
Dr Jostol Pinto - PG resident in the department of medicine, who compered the programme, proposed the vote of thanks.
