Udupi, Apr 24: “Nothing in the world is greater than people’s love. It’s essential to be committed to the betterment of the world,” said Swami Sugunendrateerta of Puttige Mutt.

Swami Sugunendrateerta was gracing the hometown’s felicitation of lawyer and notary Mattar Ratnakar Hegde during a function held at Mattar Bobbarya Temple, Shirva, on Sunday April 22.  The programme was organized by Shirva Mattar Ratnakar Hegde felicitation committee.

“It’s rare that only a few get the honour in their hometowns despite his/her major achievement.  Ratnakar Hegde is fortunate indeed in this regard,” said Swami Sugunendrateerta.

Legislative council speaker D H Shankaramurti said that although Ratnakar Hegde is located in rural area, he has made his mark in different spheres. “He has genuine social concern and deserves a better position in the political sphere,” he said.

Mumbai entrepreneur Shirva Nadibettu Nityanand Hegde presided over the programme.

Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnic, Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty, Udupi district BJP president K Uday Kumar Shetty, Vedamurti Kutyar Kenja Sridar Tantri, Shirva Vishnumurti temple chief priest Raghupati Gundu Bhat, Vijayalaxmi Ratnakar Hegde, Karunakar N Shetty, Mahesh Hegde, Jagdish Hegde, Suresh Nayak, Sunil Nayak, and Nadibettu V Subbayya Hegde were present on the occasion.

TP president Devdas Hebbar welcomed the gathering.  Suzlon officer Ashok Shetty delivered the introductory speech. Havanje Prakash Shetty and Ravindra Poojary Adve compered the programme.  Santosh Kumar Moodubelle proposed the vote of thanks.

Ratnakar Hegde is a practicing lawyer and notary since the past four decades. He is serving as president of Bar Association here. He is well-known for his contributions in social welfare, religious, legal, and cultural spheres. Ratnakar Hegde has mentored several budding lawyers in his long career.
