Udupi, Apr 26: With the theme, 'Let your Light Shine', the Don Bosco Summer Club 2012, for children of Shirva and around was inaugurated on Tuesday April 24 at Don Bosco Youth Centre Shirva by the chief guest Fr Stany Tauro, parish priest of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva.

Fr Stany Tauro inaugurated the summer club by lighting the lamp and unveiling the plaque containing the summer club programme. He said that it was the privilege of the Shirva parish that an institute of the Salesians of Don Bosco is situated in the precincts of the parish, which caters to such innovative and well organized programmes on behalf of youngsters of the locality.  He honoured the coaches who would be training the youngsters in various domains such as music, drawing, craft, dance and english speaking skills.

Simon D’Souza, entrepreneur, philanthropist and a well wisher of the institute was the guest of honour.  He felicitated the 20 young volunteers who have pledged themselves to be the backbone of the organizing committee. Citing interesting instances from his life, he inspired the youngsters to take their lives in their own hands.  Fr Maxim D’Souza SDB, rector of the institution presided over the inaugural function and lit the lamp in honour of Don Bosco.

The programme attended by 150 youngsters, was ably coordinated by Br Kiran Nazareth, Br Michael Dias and Br Merwin Fernandes under the guidance of Fr Maxim D’Souza.

Interesting programmes, competitions and games will be conducted to help the youngsters spend the holidays fruitfully and the beat the summers heat.

The concluding programme of the club will be held on May 10 at 2.30 pm.
