Ajman: International Lecture Series – Special Talk by Dr Awatif Juma Al Bahar

Ajman, Apr 27: An international lecture series, ‘Heroes of Healthcare’ was recently organized by the Gulf Medical University (GMU), here wherein internationally renowned medical experts were invited to deliver talks and interact with the faculty and students at the university.

GMU as part of the ‘Heroes of Healthcare’ lecture series hosted a special talk by Dr Awatif Juma Al Bahar.It had the privilege of hosting the first UAE national under the ‘Heroes of Healthcare’.

Addressing the students and faculty of GMU, Dr Bahar highlighted the need to focus on the goal, and encouraged the students to pursue their dreams without fear. She narrated her life experiences as a student and captured their attention with her unique style.

“A healthcare professional is a unique person with a sole aim of helping the patients” advised Dr Bahar to the GMU students during the international lecture series.

She began her lecture with the golden tips for success which included the do’s and don’ts that could pave the way to become successful in life. “One has to be specific and have clear aim about his/her career. He/She must be persistent and not give up till they achieve the highest degree in specialization and regularly update their skills. One must love the job and use the knowledge to help the patients”, stressed Dr Bahar. She also emphasized the students not to be stubborn and arrogant, rather be flexible. “One should bear in mind that team work is very essential, therefore a healthcare professional should not hesitate to ask for help from any quarter whenever needed”, added Dr Bahar.

The founder president of GMU, Ajman Thumbay Moideen along with the provost of GMU, Professor Gita Ashok Raj bestowed a special memento – Heroes of Healthcare Award to Dr Awatif Al Bahar in recognition of her invaluable contributions to healthcare and medicine throughout the region and beyond. While congratulating Moideen for GMU possessing one of the best infrastructures in the Middle East, Awatif Al Bahar said that she was highly impressed with the tremendous progress made by GMU and wished the very best in the future too.

Later, Dr Awatif Al Bahar alongwith Thumbay Moideen had an audience with his highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, member of the supreme council, UAE and ruler of Ajman at the ruler’s court. She was felicitated with a special souvenir and a memento in recognition of her outstanding contributions to healthcare in the community.

Dr Awatif Juma Al Bahar is the consultant, OBS/Gynecology, reproductive endocrinology and medical director of Dubai Gynecology & Fertility Centre, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai.

She heads as the president of Obs/Gynecology Scientific Board in UAE and was the president of UAE Obs/Gynecology Society till 2006.

She is the director of UAE branch of IAN Donald University School of Medical Ultrasound. She is also the faculty member for MRCOG teaching program in UAE. Dr Bahar is also the president and establisher of Dubai International Obstetrics, Gynecology and Infertility Conference and Exhibition (DIOFCE). She has the distinction of being the official representative of UAE Infertility Society in the Middle East. She has been selected as a member for Arabic Women Award Committee in Paris.

Dr Bahar has been awarded by his highness Amro Moosa in 2004 by being chosen as the best woman in medical and social services in the whole Arab world.

She has held memberships in obstetrics/gynecology from Germany, Koln till 1996, in endocrine and infertility from Academic University in Bonn till 1999 and consultant supervisor for Master and PhD students in Baghdad and Jordanian University Medical Colleges. Dr Bahar is involved in many publications in PCO and infertility.
