No Post for those Facing Graft Charges: Ananth Kumar

Hubli, Apr 30 (DHNS) : The BJP has pledged to fight corruption and hence, it has decided not to give any post to those facing corruption charges in the court of law, BJP national general secretary, H N Ananth Kumar, said on Sunday.

Keeping senior BJP leader Bangaru Lakshman, who was caught on camera while accepting bribe, away from party activities for the last 12 years was an example of this, he said.

Kumar, who was here to attend a private function, told Deccan Herald that allegations made by Opposition parties were different from charges faced in court.

Court cases were more serious and could not be taken lightly. Those facing charges of corruption in courts would be accepted only if the courts give them a clean chit. Till then, they would not be given any post. This was the party’s clear stand, he said. When asked whether this rule applied to former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa also, Ananth Kumar said: “Lakshman, who was the national president of the party, was kept away from party activities for 12 years on the basis of this rule. Therefore, no one is an exception to it.”

He evaded a question on whether the chief minister would be replaced before the elections. “Sadananda Gowda is giving good governance. Therefore, the question of leadership change does not arise at this moment. The party high command will decide on the leadership issue when the need arises.”

He did not give a clear answer when asked whether there was any chance of he becoming chief minister. “The party high command is keenly monitoring the developments in the State. It has sent a clear message to the State party leaders to work with unity,” he said.

He did not answer as to why Yeddyurappa had become silent suddenly and whether the party had made any promise to him (Yeddyurappa). Kumar said he would not comment on State politics.

On UPA govt

He said the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre was mired in corruption and there was anarchy in the administration and economic bankruptcy. Kumar said the UPA government was counting its days. The Congress was struggling to find an acceptable candidate for the President’s post, he said. Kumar termed deregulation of diesel prices a ‘blunder.’

“This is a classic example of the anti-people policies of the Centre,” he added.
