Udupi, May 1: Under the joint auspices of district Dalit Sangarsha Samiti (DSS) Ambedkarism, and district SC / ST Employees Federation, ‘Dr B R Ambedkar Jayanti’ was held at Narayana Guru auditorium, Bannaje, on Monday April 30.

SP Dr Boralingayya inaugurated the rally of cultural troupes at noon on Monday. It began from the town hall passing through Jodukatte, taluk office, Hotel Kidiyoor, and Shiribeedu before concluding at the venue.



The state minister for social welfare and prisons A Narayanaswamy inaugurated the stage programme.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the state is funding the expenditures of private schools for backward classes. “From 6,000 applications for housing sites, 4,000 have been approved and 1,600 are pending.  An amount of Rs 4 crore has been earmarked for infrastructural development in each legislative assembly constituency.  The state is committed to making Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district naxal free. An amount of Rs 10 crore has been granted to Navodaya Schools and Morarji Desai Schools,” he added.

The district DSS chief convener Hoovappa Master presided over the programme. MLA Raghupati Bhat garlanded the portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar while entrepreneur Pramod Madwaraj distributed scholarships to the students. Deputy commissioner Dr M T Reju was the chief guest on the occasion.

Dr Vasudev Belle, Murugesh, and Jayakar Suvarna were present at the dais. DSS state committee member Sundar Master delivered the introductory address.
