Mangalore, May 3: The residents of Kulur, Melukoppala and Atrebail on Thursday May 3 stepped up their protest against the MSEZ demanding the removal of mud from Phalguni river.

On Wednesday May 2, the MSEZ legal advisor and the police had promised the protestors to bring MSEZ MD Dr Rajiv Banga before them along with MSEZ higher officials, CRZ officials and the top police officers. Only after this assurance did the people take back their protest.

They had agreed to meet the protestors at 5 pm at the spot where the mud is being allegedly used to fill up the river to widen the road. However, the officials failed to turn up, which angered the villagers and they marched to the MUDA building where MSEZ office is housed.

But finding the MSEZ office closed, they stormed DC Dr Channappa Gowda's office and demanded his immediate removal for being silent on the issue and supporting the company. They also burnt an effigy of the Dr Banga.
